Собственно, животрепещущий вопрос:
Would you agree that watching athletes compete in sporting events is a sheer waste of time? Justify your answer.

I disagree with the statement that it is worthless spending your time on watching sporting events. Nowadays we face the fact that programmes broadcasting them are becoming very popular, because as far as I’m concerned, there’s a number of advantages in devoting your time to watching them.
To begin with, these programmes give us a perception about the variety of kinds of sports, and it may help someone to choose the activity which will suit them best. Moreover, sometimes athletes, like Madonna Harris, who take their bodies’ capabilities to extremes and whose story is a challenging and rocky road to success, may appear to be good role models. While watching sport competitions, especially live ones, where an athlete of a team from your native country fighting for its honor takes part, it occurs to you that both athletes and spectators experience unbelievable tension and the whole audience is so unified with this rising feeling of longing for victory.
On the whole, I strongly believe that the main thing is that these events lift people’s spirits and unite them.
